*** FREE ENTRY TILL 9pm *** Toumba real name Yazan Zyadat, is a DJ and producer born and raised in Jordan, and the club music he makes reflects the musical influences he grew up around. He is intent on representing and developing the local scene on its own terms. He's been in London for six weeks as a base for his European shows when we meet at Premises Café on a cold corner of Hackney Road in December, the day before he returns to Amman. It's been an eventful period with the release of his 'Rosefinch' EP on Hypnic Jerks and the title-track from his most recent 'Petals' EP with Hessle Audio. CHRMS : Veer Kowli's journey through the realms of artistry began in Mumbai, where he was born and raised. Even as a child, his creative spirit burned brightly, at the tender age of 9, when he began to explore the world of music. It was here that the seeds of his musical passion were sown, nurtured by the otherworldly essence of the city and a sense of not quite fitting into his own reality. As he grew, so did his artistic pursuits. Kowli dabbled in various forms of expression, from graphic design to filmmaking, all of which became a wellspring of inspiration for his future endeavors. But it was in the world of music, under the alias CHRMS (pronounced 'Charms'), that he truly found his calling. CHRMS drew from a wide range of influences, including the soulful melodies of contemporary R&B and Jazz and the ethereal vibes of ambient music, seamlessly weaving them together with the futuristic sounds of IDM and Left-field Bass. His music bore the echoes of his musical inspirations, with Aphex Twin being a prominent figure among them.
