Event Details
Disco, a vibrant and beat-driven music genre, dominated the dance scene in the 1970s, originating from the dance-oriented nightclubs known as discotheques in the 1960s. Initially thriving in underground clubs, catering to black, gay, and Latino dancers, deejays played a pivotal role in shaping the disco culture. The emergence of 12-inch, 45-rpm extended-play singles tailored for club deejays fueled the genre's rise. Gloria Gaynor's 'Never Can Say Goodbye' (1974) marked a pivotal disco hit, designed specifically for club play. Although rooted in African American musical sources, disco's appeal transcended ethnic boundaries, uniting diverse artists like KC and the Sunshine Band and the Salsoul Orchestra in this dance revolution.
